A Welcome Reprieve from Severe Weather

After a tumultuous start to the month that saw devastating storms and tragic tornado activity across the region on Thursday and Friday, Oklahoma City residents can look forward to a much calmer Saturday. The severe weather system that gripped the heartland has shifted eastward, leaving the metro area with stabilizing conditions and a break from the threat of high-impact weather.

Morning: A Chilly, Clear Start

Early risers will need to grab a heavy jacket as they head out today. Temperatures in Oklahoma City started in the low 40s, with some areas dipping to a crisp 38°F. The morning hours will remain clear and bright, providing excellent visibility for those traveling or starting their weekend chores. Winds are light but have a slight northern bite, making the air feel a few degrees cooler than the actual thermometer reading.

Afternoon: Mild Temperatures and Broken Clouds

As we move into the afternoon, the mercury is expected to climb to a comfortable high of 66°F. While the sun will dominate the early part of the day, we expect to see an increase in broken clouds by mid-afternoon. The humidity will hover around 39%, making for a dry and pleasant atmosphere. A steady breeze of approximately 12 mph from the north will keep the air moving, though no significant wind advisories are in effect for the metro area today.

Evening and Overnight: Clear and Cooling

For those with Saturday evening plans, the weather will remain cooperative. Skies are forecast to clear up once again after sunset. Temperatures will drop steadily through the 50s during the evening hours, eventually settling at an overnight low near 41°F. There is a negligible 4% to 10% chance of precipitation, so umbrellas can safely be left at home for the time being.

Safety and Alerts

While the immediate threat of tornadoes and large hail has passed Oklahoma City, the National Weather Service continues to monitor a smattering of severe potential to our south in Texas and further east toward the Mississippi Valley. After the recent storm-related fatalities in Fairview and Beggs earlier this week, local officials encourage residents to remain weather-aware as we enter the height of the spring season. Additionally, remember that Daylight Saving Time returns tomorrow, Sunday, so prepare for the time change tonight.

  • High Temperature: 66°F
  • Low Temperature: 41°F
  • Wind: 12 mph (Northern)
  • Rain Chance: Less than 10%
