City Notice Roundup: Sunday Streetcar Suspension and Municipal Election Updates

Streetcar Service Interruption: Sunday, February 1
The City of Oklahoma City has announced a temporary suspension of the OKC Streetcar service effective today, Sunday, February 1, 2026. This one-day closure is necessary to allow crews to perform essential construction work related to the development of the new OKC Arena. To ensure residents and visitors can still navigate the downtown area, EMBARK is providing a bus shuttle service along the Downtown Loop during regular operating hours. Shuttles are scheduled to arrive at each of the 22 platforms approximately every 25 minutes. Please be advised that the Bricktown Loop will not be operational during this service suspension. Streetcar rides remain free through July 5, and no ticket is required to board the bus shuttles.
Traffic Advisory: Arena Construction and Utility Repairs
In conjunction with the streetcar suspension, motorists should anticipate localized traffic impacts. One westbound lane on Reno Avenue, spanning from EK Gaylord Boulevard to Ron Norick Boulevard, will be closed today from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Detour signs are in place to assist with traffic flow. Additionally, Oklahoma City Utilities crews continue to address the aftermath of a 12-inch water main break at MacArthur Avenue and Northwest 39th Street. Southbound traffic on MacArthur remains limited to turns onto 39th Street while final site stabilization continues. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
Upcoming Mayoral Election: February 10
The City Clerk’s Office reminds all registered voters that the Oklahoma City mayoral election is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Incumbent Mayor David Holt is seeking a third term and faces challenger Matthew Pallares. Residents should verify their polling locations using the Oklahoma State Election Board website or by checking their voter ID cards. This election follows the city's recent January sales and use tax summary, which indicated that General Fund collections for the start of the year were slightly below projected targets.
Public Health and Regulatory Updates
- Physician Registration: Effective January 1, 2026, all physicians providing medical marijuana recommendations must be registered with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) and have completed required educational courses. Recommendations issued by unregistered physicians are no longer legally accepted.
- Land Use Statement: Mayor David Holt confirmed this week that negotiations regarding a potential federal lease of the property at 2800 S. Council Road have concluded, as the property owners are no longer in contact with the Department of Homeland Security.
