City Notice: Winter Storm Service Disruptions and Public Safety Advisories

Winter Weather Emergency: Facility Closures
Due to the ongoing severe winter storm impacting the region, Oklahoma City officials have announced extensive closures for Sunday, January 25, 2026. To ensure the safety of residents and staff during hazardous road conditions, all OKC Parks community centers, performing arts centers, and recreation facilities are closed today. This closure includes the Martin Park Nature Center and the Will Rogers Gardens Exhibition Center. Additionally, all five municipal golf courses will remain closed through Monday, January 26. While outdoor parks technically remain open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., residents are strongly urged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
Public Works and Trash Collection Updates
The City of Oklahoma City Public Works Department has transitioned to 24-hour operations, with crews working 12-hour shifts to salt and plow primary snow routes. Because of the anticipated ice accumulation and sub-freezing temperatures, the following service changes are in effect:
- Residential Trash Collection: Services originally scheduled for Monday, January 26, have been postponed. Residents should set their carts out for a rescheduled collection on Wednesday, January 28.
- Snow Route Safety: Motorists are advised to maintain a distance of at least 200 feet from salt and plow trucks. Neighborhood streets will not be treated during this phase of the response.
Transportation and Infrastructure Advisories
Travel at Will Rogers World Airport has been significantly impacted. Most Sunday morning flights have been canceled as crews work to clear runways. Travelers are advised to check their flight status directly with airlines before heading to the airport. On the roadways, several long-term MAPS 4 and ODOT projects continue to affect traffic flow despite the weather:
- I-44 remains narrowed between SW 44th Street and I-240 through the spring for corridor widening.
- I-240 is narrowed at the I-35 interchange for multi-phase construction.
- SH-152/Airport Road remains narrowed to one lane between Meridian Avenue and Portland Avenue for ongoing repairs.
Official Notice: Federal Facility Response
The City of Oklahoma City has issued an official statement regarding the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) intent to establish a processing center at 2800 S. Council Road. While federal law limits local jurisdiction over the site’s historic impact, City staff are preparing a formal response requesting that DHS pursue a special permit in accordance with local municipal ordinances. The City aims to ensure the project adheres to the same safety and zoning standards required of other local facilities.
