City Notice: Winter Storm Service Disruptions and Public Safety Alerts

Emergency Winter Weather Service Update
In response to the severe winter storm impacting the region, Oklahoma City officials have issued a series of critical service updates for Monday, January 26, 2026. With heavy snow and freezing temperatures creating hazardous conditions, the City is prioritizing emergency operations and public safety. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads to allow Public Works crews to continue salt and plow operations on primary snow routes.
Rescheduled Trash and Recycling Collection
Due to anticipated road conditions and the safety of sanitation workers, all trash and recycling collection originally scheduled for Monday, January 26, has been rescheduled. Residents should take note of the following changes:
- Monday Routes: Collection will now take place on Wednesday, January 28.
- Preparation: Customers should place their carts at the curb by 5 a.m. on Wednesday and leave them out until serviced.
- Bulky Waste: Residents scheduled for bulky waste collection during the fourth week of the month (Jan. 26-30) should place items at the curb as scheduled and leave them until crews can safely collect them.
Court and Jury Service Cancellations
Public safety concerns have led to the suspension of local legal proceedings for the day. Officials have confirmed the following cancellations:
- Municipal Court: Presiding Judge Donald O. Kiffin has canceled all Oklahoma City Municipal Court sessions for Monday, Jan. 26. All cases will be continued to a later date without any assessment of continuance fees.
- Jury Service: Oklahoma County District Court has canceled all jury service scheduled to begin today. Prospective jurors do not need to report to the courthouse.
Public Works and Road Conditions
Public Works crews are currently operating in 12-hour shifts around the clock. The City has deployed 33 trucks equipped with salt spreaders and plows to clear designated snow routes. Officials remind drivers that salt treatment is most effective when temperatures are above 25 degrees. If you must drive, maintain a distance of at least 200 feet from plow and salt trucks. Note that neighborhood streets are not part of the primary snow routes and will not be treated at this time.
Health Advisory and EMSA Emergency Update
EMSA has reported a significant increase in cold-exposure emergencies and carbon monoxide incidents since the storm began. Residents are urged to take the following precautions:
- Ensure all home heating equipment is functioning properly and never operate generators indoors.
- Stay indoors if you have pre-existing health conditions; colder oxygen can make breathing difficult for those with respiratory issues.
- Check on elderly neighbors and vulnerable residents to ensure they have adequate heating and supplies.
Public Meetings
Despite the weather, the Oklahoma City Arts Commission Meeting remains on the schedule for today, January 26. However, the City Council meeting is currently set for its regular time on Tuesday, January 27, at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall. Residents should check the official city website for any last-minute changes to the meeting schedule.
