City Roundup: Downtown Transit Suspension and Special Council Sessions

Public Meeting: Council Ad Hoc Annexation-Deannexation Committee
Residents and stakeholders are advised that a Special Meeting of the Council Ad Hoc Annexation-Deannexation Committee is scheduled for today, Friday, February 20, 2026. This session will focus on the ongoing review of municipal boundaries and territorial adjustments. Public meetings generally occur at the City Council Chamber at 200 N Walker Ave. Agendas for this and the upcoming full City Council meeting on February 24 are available through the City Clerk’s office.
Transit Alert: Streetcar Service Suspension and Downtown Shuttles
Commuters should plan for significant disruptions in the downtown core. The Oklahoma City Streetcar service is currently suspended through Sunday, February 22, 2026. This four-day closure is necessary to facilitate critical construction work related to the New OKC Arena project. During this period, EMBARK is providing bus shuttles every 25 minutes along the Downtown Loop. Residents may board these shuttles at any of the 22 existing streetcar platforms. Please note that the Bricktown Loop is not operational during this suspension.
Road Construction and Traffic Advisories
Several long-term infrastructure projects continue to impact local travel. Drivers should prepare for the following active closures:
- I-44 Ramps: The east and westbound I-44 off-ramps at NW 10th St remain closed through summer 2026 for a city bridge replacement project.
- I-240 Interchange: East and westbound I-240 remains narrowed to two lanes at the I-35 interchange as part of multi-phase improvements scheduled through late 2026.
- Sheridan and Reno Avenues: Expect single-lane closures on Sheridan Avenue (from Ron Norick Blvd to E.K. Gaylord Blvd) and Reno Avenue (from E.K. Gaylord Blvd to Robinson Ave) due to arena-related utility work.
Health and Safety: Seasonal Advisories and Warrant Clearing
The OKC-County Health Department (OCCHD) continues its seasonal vaccination campaign, offering flu and COVID-19 immunizations at all campus locations to address late-winter respiratory trends. Additionally, the City has announced a Warrant Clearing Event for February 27. This initiative allows individuals with outstanding municipal warrants for traffic or misdemeanor violations to resolve their cases without the fear of arrest.
Upcoming Service Change: Bulky Trash Collection
Effective March 1, 2026, the bulky trash collection schedule will change for approximately 64,000 customers. The City has begun mailing postcards to impacted households. Residents are encouraged to use the interactive map at the official city utilities portal to verify their new collection dates and avoid missed pickups.
