Key 2026 Oklahoma election deadlines approach for registration, absentee ballots, and party-affiliation changes statewide

Deadlines begin arriving as Oklahoma’s 2026 election calendar takes shape
Oklahoma voters face a series of deadlines in 2026 that affect whether they can participate in upcoming elections, request absentee ballots on time, and—during part of the year—change party affiliation. Election officials set key dates well in advance, and several of the first major cutoffs arrive in March for April elections.
The next statewide election date on the calendar is Tuesday, April 7, 2026, which includes Board of Education general elections and other special elections where applicable. Polls are scheduled to be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day.
April 7 election: voter registration and absentee deadlines
Voter registration deadline: Friday, March 13, 2026.
Absentee ballot request deadline: Monday, March 23, 2026, at 5 p.m.
Early voting (in-person absentee): Thursday and Friday, April 2–3, 2026, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
State law allows voter registration applications to be submitted at any time, but applications must be received at least 25 days before an election to be eligible for that election. Applications that arrive later are processed after the election.
Primary season follows in June, with a potential runoff in August
After April, the statewide calendar moves into primary elections on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The calendar lists May 22, 2026, as the voter registration deadline and June 1, 2026, as the absentee ballot request deadline for June elections.
If any races require a runoff, runoff primary elections are scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The calendar lists July 31, 2026, as the voter registration deadline and August 10, 2026, as the absentee ballot request deadline for August elections.
General election set for Nov. 3, 2026
Oklahoma’s general election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The calendar lists Oct. 9, 2026, as the voter registration deadline and Oct. 19, 2026, as the absentee ballot request deadline. Early voting is scheduled for Oct. 28–30 (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Oct. 31 (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
Party affiliation changes restricted from April 1 through Aug. 31
Oklahoma voters may generally update registration details—including party affiliation—throughout the year, but party changes are restricted from April 1 through Aug. 31 in even-numbered years. The last day to change party affiliation before that window is March 31, 2026; changes submitted during the restricted period are held and processed after Aug. 31.
For the 2026 and 2027 election years, recognized parties have not authorized independent voters to participate in party primaries or runoff primaries. Independent voters remain eligible to vote on nonpartisan items that may appear during primary elections, as well as in general elections.
Voters can register online if they have an Oklahoma driver license or state ID with a signature on file, or use paper registration options through county election boards and other approved locations. Voters who have moved counties or changed their name must submit a new registration application.
