Oklahoma City Commute Overview for February 10, 2026

Commuters in the Oklahoma City metro area should prepare for several targeted lane closures and ongoing construction projects this Tuesday. While weather conditions remain mostly cloudy with a mild high of 61°F, several strategic bottlenecks on the I-40 and I-235 corridors are expected to impact travel times throughout the day and into the evening hours.

Major Highway Impacts and Evening Delays

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has issued specific alerts for the I-40 corridor. Starting at 7:00 p.m. this evening, westbound I-40 will be narrowed to a single lane from the I-235 interchange to Shields Blvd for essential surface repairs. This closure is scheduled to last until 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Additionally, motorists traveling near the Kickapoo Turnpike should note that the right shoulder of westbound I-40 remains closed through today for routine sample testing.

For those utilizing I-235, southbound lanes at NE 4th St were narrowed overnight for striping; while work was scheduled to conclude by 6:00 a.m. today, residual congestion may affect the early morning rush. In Norman, SH-9E is narrowed to one lane in both directions between US-77 and S. Jenkins Ave from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today, which will likely slow traffic near the Bishop Creek area.

Ongoing Long-term Construction Zones

  • I-44 & SH-152: Eastbound I-44 is narrowed to one lane at SW 74th St through late February. The on-ramp from 74th St to eastbound I-44 also remains closed.
  • I-240 & I-35 Interchange: Drivers should expect narrow lanes and a lack of shoulders at this junction. The SE 74th St service road is closed to through traffic between Eastern Ave and Crossroads Blvd.
  • I-44 at NW 10th St: Both the east and westbound off-ramps to NW 10th St remain closed for a city bridge project, with a targeted reopening in summer 2026.
  • I-40 at Douglas Blvd: Traffic remains narrowed to two lanes in each direction in Midwest City, with intermittent ramp closures expected.

Local Roadwork and Public Transit Alerts

In the heart of the city, NE 23rd St (SH-66) continues to be restricted to one lane in each direction between N. Lee Ave and N. Harvey Ave. This is compounded by a recent water main break near Harvey Avenue, which has forced a detour for westbound traffic and impacted EMBARK bus services.

EMBARK riders should be aware of the following service disruptions:

  • Route 023 & 23N: Multiple westbound stops are closed along NW 23rd St at Lee, Walker, and Robinson Avenues due to the water main repair.
  • RAPID Northwest: The inbound stop at Classen & NW 42nd is currently closed due to construction.
  • Route 040: The inbound stop at S. Walker Ave & SW 44th St remains closed for ongoing roadwork.

As a reminder, the OKC Streetcar is currently offering free service as part of a six-month pilot program to encourage ridership. Commuters are advised to allow an extra 10-15 minutes for travel through the I-40/I-235 junction this evening.
