Commuters in Oklahoma City should prepare for significant travel time increases this Wednesday, January 21, 2026, as several multi-week highway projects and local street rehabilitations hit their peak. Heavy congestion is currently reported on the city's southwest side, particularly near the Will Rogers World Airport corridor and the I-240 interchange. Major Highway and Interchange Alerts

• I-44 and SW 74th Street: A major corridor widening project has reduced eastbound I-44 to a single lane near Southwest 74th Street. Additionally, the eastbound on-ramp from 74th Street remains closed. This work is expected to cause substantial backups through late February, affecting those traveling toward the downtown area from the airport.
• I-240 and I-35 Interchange: As part of a multi-phase improvement project, I-240 remains narrowed to two lanes in both directions at the I-35 junction.
