Friday Morning Traffic Overview

Commuters in Oklahoma City should prepare for significant travel times this Friday, February 6, 2026, as several multi-year infrastructure projects reach critical phases. The most substantial delays are concentrated in South Oklahoma City and the corridor leading toward Will Rogers World Airport. Drivers are encouraged to allow an additional 15 to 20 minutes for their morning routes, particularly if utilizing the I-44 or I-240 corridors.

Highways and Major Arteries

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) continues its extensive widening and rehabilitation projects on several key interstates. Notable alerts for today include:

  • I-44 (Southwest OKC): Eastbound I-44 (northbound travel) remains narrowed to a single lane at S.W. 74th St. near the airport. The on-ramp from 74th St. to eastbound I-44 is also closed. This project is part of a larger corridor widening effort between S.W. 44th St. and I-240 expected to last through the spring.
  • I-240 / I-35 Interchange: Eastbound and westbound I-240 is narrowed to two lanes at the I-35 junction. Commuters should note the lack of shoulders in this zone. Additionally, the S.E. 74th St. / I-240 service road is closed to through traffic between Eastern Ave. and Crossroads Blvd.
  • I-44 (West OKC): Both the eastbound and westbound off-ramps to N.W. 10th St. remain closed for a bridge replacement project. This closure is slated to continue through the summer months.
  • I-40 (Midwest City): Expect lane shifts and narrowing to two lanes in both directions between I-240 and Town Center Dr. due to ongoing work at Douglas Blvd.

Local Roadworks and Suburban Delays

Beyond the highway system, several arterial streets are facing restrictions that may impact local school and business commutes:

  • N.E. 23rd St. (SH-66): Traffic is narrowed to one lane in each direction between N. Lee Ave. and N. Harvey Ave. through mid-February.
  • Moore: S.E. 4th St. (SH-37) is completely closed between Broadway Ave. and Tower Dr. for a railroad bridge project.
  • Edmond: The intersection of Danforth Rd. and Kelly Ave. remains narrowed to one lane in all directions as part of a city expansion project.
  • Yukon: Garth Brooks Blvd. is restricted to one lane in each direction under the I-40 bridge.

Public Transit and EMBARK Updates

Public transport users should be aware of specific stop closures and service highlights for today. The EMBARK RAPID service stop #4243 (Classen & NW 42nd Inbound) is currently closed due to construction. Passengers are advised to use the nearest alternative stops. On a positive note, the OKC Streetcar continues its six-month free service pilot program, which is available to all riders today. Finally, the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority (COTPA) is scheduled to meet this morning at 9:00 AM at the City Council Chambers for those interested in upcoming transit planning.
