Mid-Week Commute and Construction Overview

As of Wednesday, February 25, 2026, commuters in Oklahoma City should prepare for a mix of long-term infrastructure projects and specific nightly closures. While the morning rush is expected to follow typical patterns, significant lane restrictions remain in place on major arteries including I-240, I-40, and I-44, which may result in bottlenecking during peak hours.

Overnight Alert: I-35 at Memorial Road

Drivers using the northern corridor should be particularly cautious tonight. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has scheduled intermittent lane narrowing on both north and southbound I-35 between Memorial Rd. and Wilshire Blvd. This work is set to occur from 8 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday for the installation of overhead signs. Additionally, various on- and off-ramps within this stretch may be temporarily closed during the work window.

Major Ongoing Interstate Projects

Several multi-phase projects continue to impact traffic flow across the metro area today:

  • I-240 & I-35 Interchange: East and westbound I-240 remains narrowed to just two lanes at the I-35 junction. Drivers are reminded that there are currently no shoulders in this zone, requiring extra vigilance and reduced speeds.
  • I-40 in Midwest City: Between I-240 and Town Center Dr., I-40 is restricted to two lanes in each direction with significant lane shifts. This bridge and pavement overhaul is expected to continue through early 2026.
  • I-44 & Airport Road: In Southwest OKC, I-44 is narrowed near SW 74th St. due to a corridor widening project. The I-44 off-ramps to NW 10th St. also remain closed as part of a separate city bridge project.

Local Roadwork and Surface Street Updates

Beyond the interstates, several key surface streets are facing restrictions:

  • NE 23rd St: Traffic is narrowed to one lane in each direction between Broadway Ave. and Western Ave. for a streetscape improvement project.
  • Edmond/Moore: The intersection of Danforth Rd. and Kelly Ave. in Edmond remains restricted to single lanes. In Moore, SH-37 (SE 4th St.) is closed between Broadway Ave. and Tower Dr. for railroad bridge construction.
  • Yukon: Garth Brooks Blvd. is narrowed to one lane under I-40 for ongoing resurfacing work.

Public Transit and Event Impact

EMBARK users should note that Route 019 remains in full service for the 2026 fiscal year, though Route 024 continues to operate with a reduced mid-day schedule. For those heading downtown this evening, be mindful of increased pedestrian traffic near the entertainment districts for scheduled performances, including Jeff Allen at 7:00 p.m. Commuters are encouraged to allow an extra 15 to 20 minutes for travel through known work zones.
