Official City Roundup: Bulky Trash Updates and Downtown Service Notices

Bulky Trash Schedule Changes Effective March 1
The City of Oklahoma City Utilities Department has issued a formal notice to approximately 64,000 residents regarding significant changes to the bulky trash collection schedule. Starting March 1, 2026, collection routes in the central corridor—specifically between South I-240 Service Road and 122nd Street, and between May and Bryant avenues—will shift to optimize route efficiency and balance daily landfill loads.
Residents currently affected by these changes should have received postcards detailing their first three collection dates under the new system. To verify if your neighborhood is included in the service adjustment, the City has launched an interactive color-coded map at the official utilities portal. Until the March 1 rollout, residents are instructed to follow their existing schedules. Key reminders for all bulky waste set-outs include:
- Items must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on your assigned Monday or Wednesday.
- Do not set items out more than three days prior to your scheduled date.
- Maintain five feet of clearance from trees, mailboxes, and utility meters.
Downtown Traffic Advisory: Arena Construction
Motorists are advised that North Broadway Avenue, between West Sheridan and West Main Street, remains closed to through traffic as utility work continues for the city’s new state-of-the-art arena. This closure is currently scheduled to remain in effect through February 28, 2026. Crews are currently installing new power lines and completing manhole work at the site of the former convention center.
While detours are clearly marked, the City recommends using South Broadway Avenue for hotel and business access. Additionally, a temporary median modification on North Broadway is in place to allow turnaround access for guests of the Sheraton and Wyndham Grand hotels. Commuters should expect minor delays and traffic shifts in the immediate vicinity of the Paycom Center.
Upcoming City Council Meeting
The Oklahoma City Council is scheduled to convene for its next regular meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. in the City Council Chamber. Residents interested in participating in public hearings regarding zoning, development, or municipal code amendments may view the agenda on the PrimeGov Public Portal. Those wishing to address the Council must sign up at the Clerk's desk prior to the start of the session.
Health Care and Insurance Policy Updates
The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) reminds residents of updated coverage policies that went into effect earlier this month. As of February 2026, prior authorization is no longer required for low-dose CT lung scans (CPT 71271), which are now permitted once per calendar year for eligible participants. Furthermore, new coverage has been opened for the CADScor System, an automated heart analysis technology used for coronary artery disease risk assessment.
