Official Roundup: Oklahoma City Public Service Notices and Infrastructure Updates

Public Transit Advisory: Streetcar Suspension and Thunder Shuttle
Oklahoma City transit officials have announced that the OKC Streetcar service remains suspended through Thursday, February 26, 2026. This temporary interruption is necessary to facilitate critical electrical work associated with the ongoing construction of the New Arena downtown. To assist commuters, EMBARK is currently providing bus shuttle service to all regular streetcar stops every 25 minutes during standard operating hours. For the Thunder home game scheduled for Sunday, February 22, a dedicated Game Day Bus Shuttle will be active starting two hours before tip-off and concluding one hour after the game concludes. All streetcar and bus shuttle rides are currently free of charge as part of a promotional period extending through early July.
Major Road Closures and Traffic Impacts
Several long-term infrastructure projects continue to affect traffic patterns across the metro area. Drivers should be aware of the following active notices for February 22:
- I-44 Bridge Project: The east and westbound I-44 off-ramps at N.W. 10th Street remain closed. This closure is expected to persist through summer 2026 for a city bridge reconstruction project.
- I-240 Interchange Improvements: Traffic on I-240 is narrowed to two lanes at the I-35 interchange. There are currently no shoulders in this zone, and motorists are advised to use I-40 as an alternate route.
- SH-152 Reconstruction: All lanes of State Highway 152 are closed between Banner Road and Cemetery Road near Union City. This total closure will remain in effect through late spring 2026.
- Garth Brooks Boulevard: North and southbound lanes are narrowed to a single lane in each direction under I-40 in Yukon for resurfacing through the summer.
Utilities: Bulky Trash Schedule Changes
The Oklahoma City Utilities Department has issued a final reminder regarding the significant bulky trash collection shift set to begin on March 1, 2026. Approximately 64,000 residents in the central corridor—specifically the area from South I-240 to 122nd Street between May and Bryant Avenues—will see their pickup days or weeks adjusted. While current schedules remain in effect today, residents are encouraged to use the interactive map at the official city portal to verify their new March collection dates. Postcards were mailed to affected households in late January to assist with this transition.
Upcoming Public Meetings
While municipal offices are closed today, Sunday, February 22, several key meetings are scheduled for the coming week. On Monday, February 23, the Core To Shore Reinvestment Area Review Committee will hold a special meeting at the Embark Large Conference Room. The next regular City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, at 8:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers. On the agenda for the upcoming session are hearings regarding MAPS 4 beautification phases and neighborhood connectivity improvements.
