How the 2026 figures compare with the prior year
Compared with the prior annual report based on the January 15, 2025 snapshot, total statewide registration is lower. The 2025 report listed 2,470,437 registered voters, meaning the 2026 report reflects a decrease of 64,269 registered voters year over year.

Closed primary rules and a key 2026 deadline
The Election Board also reiterated that Oklahoma uses a closed primary system, meaning voters generally must be affiliated with a recognized party to vote in that party’s primary election. The agency highlighted that voters who want to participate in a party primary in June 2026 should ensure their party affiliation is current before April 1, 2026.
Under state law, party affiliation changes are not permitted from April 1 through August 31 in even-numbered years, and requests received during that period are held and processed after August 31.
What the annual report represents
The annual report is an official accounting of registration as of a specific date rather than a measure of turnout. The Election Board publishes voter registration statistics on a regular schedule and also provides reports organized by county and district, along with monthly updates and historical registration totals.
