Reactions from Oklahoma’s leaders emphasize cost-of-living, immigration enforcement and national security claims

Oklahoma’s top Republican officeholders and members of its congressional delegation responded publicly after President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Union address on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, highlighting themes the president elevated during the speech, including affordability, immigration enforcement and national security.

Gov. Kevin Stitt framed his reaction around household costs and state-level economic messaging, pointing to Oklahoma’s recent tax reductions and economic indicators. In a social media statement posted early Wednesday, Stitt credited the White House for placing affordability “front and center” and cited Oklahoma’s reported $1.6 billion in tax cuts, a nearly $11,000 increase in median income and low unemployment as evidence of an economic approach he said could “restore the American Dream.”

U.S. Sen. James Lankford also responded in a post that described the address as “impeccable,” while U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin focused on a moment from the speech tied to immigration and public safety. Mullin highlighted the president’s prompt challenging lawmakers to stand in agreement that protecting American citizens should be the government’s first duty, describing the chamber’s reaction as a clear contrast between the parties.

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, the longtime congressman from Oklahoma’s 4th Congressional District, issued a longer statement praising what he described as accomplishments from Trump’s first year as the nation’s 47th president. Cole’s statement echoed several metrics and policy descriptions offered during the national address, including claims of sharp declines in unlawful border crossings and “getaways,” and a broader assertion that public safety conditions are improving.

“At the border, we have seen a complete one-eighty,” Cole said, also pointing to investments in defense and describing actions he said included airstrikes on Iran last year and the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro earlier this year.

Cole also credited a major legislative package he referred to as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” saying it delivered historic tax cuts and contributed to easing cost-of-living pressures. His statement asserted progress on consumer drug costs and deregulation, while contrasting current conditions with the prior administration’s record on inflation and immigration.

As of Wednesday morning, additional Oklahoma responses were still emerging. Mentions of Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond and U.S. Rep. Stephanie Bice appeared in early compilations of reactions, though detailed statements from those offices were not included in the initial public roundup.

  • Stitt emphasized affordability and state-level tax cuts.

  • Lankford praised the address without detailing specific policy points.

  • Mullin spotlighted an immigration-focused exchange in the chamber.

  • Cole’s statement aligned closely with the president’s border, defense and economic claims.

The reactions underscored Oklahoma’s continued alignment with the Republican White House on border enforcement and cost-of-living messaging, while leaving open how broader debates over the president’s national claims and policy proposals will translate into legislative action.
