Oklahoma softball rallies past Auburn to clinch first SEC series win, setting early conference tone

Oklahoma turns early SEC test into first series win of 2026
The University of Oklahoma softball team secured its first Southeastern Conference series victory of the 2026 season by winning the opening two games of a three-game set against Auburn at Love’s Field in Norman. The Sooners took the Friday opener 13-5 in five innings and followed Saturday with an 8-5 win that required a late comeback.
The series marked Oklahoma’s conference opener after a bye week at the start of SEC play. Oklahoma entered the weekend having played its first home games of the season at Love’s Field earlier in March, including a run-rule win over Tulsa on March 11 and wins over Louisiana and Abilene Christian during the Okana Invitational (March 7–8).
Friday: nine-run inning drives run-rule opener
In the March 13 opener, Oklahoma scored 13 runs and ended the game in five innings with a run-rule victory. The Sooners’ scoring included a decisive nine-run inning that created separation early and allowed Oklahoma to control the game’s tempo from the middle innings onward.
Oklahoma’s 13-5 result immediately put Auburn in a must-win position for the remainder of the weekend and gave the Sooners a 1-0 start in SEC play.
Saturday: OU erases a deficit to win 8-5
The March 14 game delivered the weekend’s defining swing. Auburn carried a lead into the late innings before Oklahoma produced a rally that flipped the scoreboard and pushed the Sooners to a 2-0 series advantage. The comeback win, recorded as an 8-5 final, ensured Oklahoma had already clinched the series before Sunday’s finale.
Saturday’s result also underscored the competitive pressures of Oklahoma’s early SEC slate. With conference games often hinging on bullpen management, timely extra-base hits and defensive execution, Oklahoma’s ability to create offense late against an SEC opponent provided an early indicator of how the Sooners intend to navigate league play.
