Sanitation and Bulky Waste Collection Status

The Oklahoma City Utilities Department confirms that trash and recycling collection for Friday, January 30, 2026, is currently proceeding as originally scheduled. Following weather-related adjustments earlier this week, residents are reminded that any service impacts for Friday will be communicated via official channels if conditions shift. However, collection for households originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, has been officially moved to Saturday, January 31.

  • Bulky Waste: Residents in the fourth week collection zone (January 26–30) should ensure items remain at the curb. Crews are working to complete all routes as weather and road conditions allow.
  • Set-out Instructions: Please maintain clear access to polycarts and keep vehicles off residential streets where possible to assist collection drivers.

Traffic Advisory: E.K. Gaylord Lane Closure

A significant traffic adjustment is now in effect on E.K. Gaylord Boulevard. The northbound lane on the east side of the street, between Reno Avenue and Sheridan Avenue, is closed for utility work. This closure is necessary for infrastructure developments related to the new Oklahoma City Arena project. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes through downtown. This closure is expected to remain in place through March 1, 2026.

Health and Provider Renewal Deadline

The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) has issued a reminder for all healthcare providers regarding contract renewals. To ensure no disruption in services for SoonerCare and SoonerSelect members, the deadline for provider renewals has been extended through tomorrow, Saturday, January 31, 2026. Providers are urged to verify that all contact information and facility assignments are up to date in the OHCA portal before the weekend deadline.

Official Statement: Proposed Federal Processing Center

The City of Oklahoma City has released an official statement regarding the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) intent to establish a new processing center at 2800 S. Council Road. While federal law often exempts such facilities from local land-use regulations, City staff are actively preparing a response to communicate the City’s desire for DHS to pursue a special permit. The City is advocating for further approvals to ensure the project aligns with local safety and community standards.
