Downtown Transit and Streetcar Alerts

Commuters and visitors in downtown Oklahoma City should be aware of a significant service interruption today, Sunday, February 1, 2026. The Oklahoma City Streetcar service has been temporarily suspended for the entire day to accommodate construction activities related to the new OKC Arena. To maintain connectivity, EMBARK is operating a bus shuttle service along the Downtown Loop, with buses arriving approximately every 25 minutes. Note that the Bricktown Loop will not be operational during this time. No ticket is required to board the shuttles at any of the 22 streetcar platforms.

In addition to the transit suspension, a street closure is in effect on Reno Avenue. One westbound lane from EK Gaylord Boulevard to Ron Norick Boulevard is closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. Detour signs are in place to guide drivers around the construction zone. Motorists are advised to expect minor delays in the immediate vicinity of the Paycom Center and the arena construction site.

Major Highway Construction and Lane Reductions

Several long-term infrastructure projects continue to affect major arteries throughout the metro area. Drivers should plan for the following conditions:

  • I-44 and Airport Road (SH-152): Both eastbound and westbound SH-152 remain narrowed near the I-44 junction. Additionally, the eastbound I-44 on-ramp from SW 74th St. is closed as part of an ongoing corridor widening project. These restrictions are expected to remain in place through the spring.
  • I-240 and I-35 Interchange: Significant narrowing persists at the I-240 and I-35 interchange. Lanes are constricted with no shoulders available in several sections. This multi-phase improvement project will continue to impact traffic flow through the end of 2026.
  • I-35 in Edmond: Lane reductions remain in effect on I-35 from Memorial Road northward to US-77/2nd Street. While Sunday traffic is typically lighter, these narrow lanes can cause unexpected backups during peak afternoon hours.
  • I-44 at NW 10th St.: Ramps remain closed at this junction for a bridge rehabilitation project. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes such as I-40 or local surface streets.

Commuter Safety and Weather Precautions

Following recent winter weather advisories, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) urges drivers to remain vigilant for black ice, particularly on bridges and overpasses during the early morning hours. Even if roads appear dry, moisture from previous days may have frozen overnight. Maintenance crews continue to monitor conditions, but travelers should check the Drive Oklahoma mobile application for real-time updates before heading out. Please remember that fines double in active work zones, and motorists should always merge early when lanes are restricted.
