Oklahoma State secures second straight Big 12 wrestling tournament title with 176 points in Tulsa
Championship decided early as Cowboys extend lead in finals session
Oklahoma State clinched the 2026 Big 12 Wrestling Championship on March 7 at Tulsa’s BOK Center, securing the league’s tournament title for a second consecutive season. The Cowboys finished with 176 team points, a total that ranks as the second-highest team score in Big 12 tournament history.
The team title was effectively locked up early in the championship session when Oklahoma State’s Casey Swiderski won at 149 pounds in the opening final of the night, turning a sizeable points advantage into an insurmountable lead in the overall standings.
Four individual champions, including two true freshmen
Oklahoma State produced four individual conference champions, spanning the lighter and middle weights. Titles were won by:
- Troy Spratley (125 pounds)
- Jax Forrest (133 pounds)
- Sergio Vega (141 pounds)
- Casey Swiderski (149 pounds)
Forrest and Vega, both true freshmen, delivered a notable share of the title-night points, reflecting the program’s ability to convert first-year starters into immediate postseason scorers. Swiderski’s 149-pound final also carried particular weight because it mathematically clinched the overall team championship.
Team race: Iowa State second, Arizona State third
The final team standings underscored Oklahoma State’s separation from the field. Iowa State finished as runner-up with 144 points, while Arizona State placed third with 94 points. Oklahoma State’s margin over second place reflected a tournament in which the Cowboys consistently advanced wrestlers deep into the bracket and converted a high percentage of semifinal appearances into finals berths.
How Oklahoma State built the decisive advantage
Oklahoma State entered the two-day event as the top seed in the team race and strengthened that position immediately. After the first session on March 6, the Cowboys led the field with nine wrestlers advancing to the semifinal round. By the end of the opening day, Oklahoma State had pushed multiple athletes into championship bouts and carried a commanding points lead into the final session.
Oklahoma State’s 176 points stand as the program’s second-largest Big 12 tournament total, trailing only its 2017 mark of 176.5.
What the repeat title signals ahead of the NCAA Championships
The Big 12 tournament serves as a critical postseason benchmark because it combines direct team scoring with automatic qualification stakes in each weight class. Oklahoma State’s repeat conference championship, reinforced by four individual titles, positions the Cowboys as one of the nation’s most productive programs entering the NCAA Wrestling Championships scheduled for March 19–21, 2026.
For Oklahoma State, the 2026 Big 12 crown also adds to a long conference-tournament record, marking the program’s 57th overall conference championship.
